Copyediting
Copyediting consists in ensuring that all citations and bibliographic entries are in the correct format for a particular style (i.e., Chicago; MLA; APA), and that all matters of spelling, style, mechanics, grammar, and usage are correct and consistent throughout the manuscript. Copyediting can also include fixing or changing the formatting of the manuscript as needed. I offer lighter or heavier copyediting based on the needs of your particular project.
Line Editing
Line editing consists in detailed sentence and paragraph edits to improve a manuscript’s style. Whereas copyediting notes unclear or awkward sentences but does not revise them, line editing includes sentence-level revisions to improve clarity and style. If you have concerns about your manuscript’s readability beyond that go beyond simple correctness and consistency, line editing may be for you.
How to Hire Me
Send me an email via the contact form with a description of the project, your required timeline, and the type of editing you need. Due to the variable nature of editing projects, I negotiate my rates on a project-by-project basis. I will need to see sample pages of the manuscript in order to give you my proposed hourly rate and an estimate of total hours to completion. For longer projects, I also offer a free sample of my editing on a 750–1000-word excerpt of the manuscript.
